A trainee is a person attached to the self-employed employer by means of a special training agreement within the framework of the SME law of February 10th 1998.  The "self-employed trainee" is considered an assistant as far as his social status is concerned. The status is not yet effective. It is still a theoretical concept.

Secondly, a trainee can also be a person who is being trained in order to establish himself as a self-employed person.
