Professional activity abroad
You are working on a permanent basis as a self-employed artist in Belgium, but you are taking on a job abroad on a temporary basis. You could remain subject to the social security rules in Belgium when you take on temporary employment in: 
  • a state of the European Union (EU)
  • a state of the European Economic Area (EEA)
  • Switzerland
  • the United States and Canada 

Within the EU, the EEA, and Switzerland, you need to be in possession of form E101 that certifies you are up-to-date with your social security contributions. In principle, this is valid for a period of 12 months. Similar forms are in use for the United States and Canada.
