Whether you, as a non-remunerated mandatary, will also have to pay contributions will depend on your actual
situation.
- You are engaged in a free mandate as your primary activity
You must pay the minimum contribution.
Exception: You have already been engaged in self-employment as your primary activity for longer
than 3 years, and three years back you received an income as a self-employed person. In that case, the
contribution will depend on the income.
- You can invoke "article 37"
You need not pay contributions. But neither are you building up your own social entitlements under
the status of self-employed persons.
- You are engaged in a free mandate as a secondary activity
You need not pay contributions.
Exception: You have been engaged for longer than 3 years in a secondary activity and your income
from 3 years back puts you at the contribution threshold.
- You have reached the retirement age
You need not join a social insurance fund and no contributions are required. This is also the case
when you are receiving an (early) retirement pension.
